
Sanja Fidler

Dr. Sanja Fidler is Vice President of AI Research at NVIDIA and leads the Spatial Intelligence Lab in Toronto, driving innovation in computer vision, 3D deep learning, and physical AI since 2018. She is also an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto and a co‑founder and affiliated faculty member of the Vector Institute, holding the Canada CIFAR AI Chair.
After earning her B.Sc. in Applied Mathematics and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Ljubljana (2002 & 2010), she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto and was a Research Assistant Professor at the Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago (2011–2013).
Dr. Fidler has co‑authored over 130 papers in areas spanning computer vision, machine learning, robotics simulation, and multimodal representations. Her work has earned prestigious awards including the NVIDIA Pioneer of AI, Amazon Academic Research, Facebook Faculty, Early Researcher, University Innovation, Connaught New Researcher, and the Canada CIFAR AI Chair. Her lab’s efforts have been recognized with honours such as a Best Paper honorable mention at CVPR 2017.
Renowned for bridging vision, graphics, and language, Dr. Fidler champions accessible annotation tools, generative AI for 3D reconstruction, and scalable spatial intelligence frameworks. Her leadership extends through global research communities—serving as Area Chair at CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICLR, EMNLP and SIGGRAPH.
Combining over 15 years of academic and industrial research experience across Europe and North America, Dr. Fidler is recognized for her pioneering, equity-driven approach to AI and her inspiring mentorship.
