Principal of Harold M. Brathwaite (HMB) Secondary School

Lola Gayle is a dedicated entrepreneur and advocate for student innovation, serving as Principal of Harold M. Brathwaite (HMB) Secondary School. This institution honours the first Black Director of the Peel District School Board and the first to hold such a position in Canada. With over 25 years in education, Lola creates empowering learning environments that encourage students to "Dream, Believe, and Succeed." She holds a Bachelor of Arts from McMaster University and a Master of Education in Teaching and Learning from Brock University.
Lola is committed to inspiring students to innovate, particularly in artificial intelligence. One of her key initiatives is the SDG Change Challenge Day at HMB, the largest event of its kind in the Peel District School Board, engaging over 900 students from grades 6 to 10. This challenge promotes creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration as students develop solutions aligned with the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, participants will expand to nine different schools, highlighting the event's collaborative spirit. Lola's commitment is centered on helping all students achieve their Destination- Graduation and pursue their aspirations. Her focus on supporting historically marginalized students is embodied in her motto, "No More Dreams Delayed." Through her work, Lola Gayle makes a significant impact on the educational landscape, fostering an inclusive and innovative mindset for the future.
